Barriers

Barriers at events can provide physical security (such as a high perimeter fence at an outdoor concert) or prevent the audience from climbing on structures such as mixer or sound towers. Barriers may also be used to alleviate and prevent the build-up of audience pressures. Also, a properly constructed front-of-stage barrier enables easier access to those experiencing physical distress, allowing them to be assisted more quickly.

Barriers will always be subject to loading and should therefore be designed to withstand both perpendicular and parallel loads in accordance with expected pressures. Consideration must be given to the nature of the loading, such as surging.
