Although the chance of a lightning strike is minimal, to reduce the risk of loss of production during a thunderstorm and potential injury to crew and public, specific controls need to be instigated to reduce the risk.

These include weather monitoring, safety plans / briefings for evacuation and shelter, ensuring equipment is properly grounded, surge protection etc.
