How Does Your Safety Measure Up?

This safety health check is designed to give an indication of current safety culture and how it compares with best practice. It won't take long to fill in but to get the best result answer the questions as honestly as you can.

It consists of 6 questions about corporate safety culture, 12 about production safety, and 4 on supplier/contractor management. All are multiple-choice. It should only take 5 minutes or so to complete.

Starting out.

You are not expected to make safety, policy or budgetary decisions, you do have to manage yourself but not others.

Two years plus

You have a number of professional production credits in your current role.

You are expected to be aware of safety policies and may have some responsibility for overseeing entry / early-stage career colleagues working with you.

HOD or above

You have built up a portfolio of professional credits.

You consistently work in advanced positions and have responsibility for overseeing safety and/or other operational matters across your direct reports.

HOP / Exec

You work across a slate of productions or the whole of a company's output.

You have significant management responsibilities, which may include overall responsibility for safety / safety policy.

We want to survey the perceptions and the reality of safety across the whole industry. Your input will be hugely valuable and we sincerely thank you for your participation.

We'd like to ask one more question: please select your answer and then see the results. Please note that we collect no personal data when you submit your answer. All responses are anonymised and aggregated for statistical analysis.

Management Responsibility

All managers have the responsibility and authority to ensure the work they are responsible for is safe and without risks to health.
In addition to their individual responsibilities, managers must:
<ul>
 	<li>Ensure the communication of safety arrangements downwards through line management via production meetings including Health &amp; Safety information and issues.</li>
 	<li>Assess the health and safety training and levels of competence of the production team, arranging training as required.</li>
 	<li>Know the health and safety best practices that apply to their work.</li>
 	<li>Ensure the risks associated with any work activity are risk assessed at the planning and implementation stages and appropriate action taken to ensure the risks are controlled.</li>
 	<li>Assign responsibility for safety, making sure everyone understands their responsibilities and there are no overlaps or gaps in arrangements.</li>
 	<li>Ensure staff receive adequate information, instruction, supervision, and training.</li>
 	<li>Ensure that all accidents, incidents and near misses are reported, investigated and appropriate follow-up action taken.</li>
 	<li>Ensure adequate implementation of emergency procedures, including evacuation in case of fire or other significant incident.</li>
 	<li>Ensure regular monitoring and review of health and safety performance of the activities under their control.</li>
